CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLEY

Handcrafted jewellery is delicate and appropriate care should be taken.

Do not exercise, sleep, shower or swim with your jewellery on. Apply any perfume, body lotion or creams and let dry before you put on your jewellery. Please also avoid getting hair products on your jewellery.

Sterling silver is a precious metal and will naturally tarnish when exposed to air. To help keep its shine, keep it in an air tight plastic bag when you are not wearing it. If you would like to clean it gently swipe it across with a polishing cloth.

Please be aware that some semi-precious stones can fade or become discoloured when exposed to heat or direct sunlight, chemicals or water.

JEWELLERY FOR CHILDREN

Bracelets contain small parts that could present a choking hazard, so adult supervision is required at all times. Jewellery pieces are NOT toys and should NOT be given to babies or very young children to play with.

PRECIOUS METALS USED IN JEWELLERY

Gold Vermeil is produced by coating sterling silver with carat gold. Gold is usually 18k to pure 24k gold. To be considered vermeil it must have a minimum gold thickness of 2.5 microns on all surfaces. A Vermeil piece of jewellery is made entirely of precious metals which gives the piece a central value.

The term “gold filled” means that a thick layer of gold is bonded to a base of other alloys such as rhodium, brass or sterling silver through heat and high pressure. The gold layer on gold filled is approximately 100 times thicker than gold plated. Gold filled items are regulated and the quantity of gold must be at least 1/20th by weight of the total product which is 5% the gold content and 95% other metals. Gold filled jewellery is an economical alternative to solid gold. It is safe for most people with sensitive skin and is hard wearing.

Sterling Silver is 92.5% pure silver with some base metal like copper added for strength.

Fine Silver is 97-99% pure silver, a little softer than sterling but very tarnish resistant.
